Fruit and I are wary of each other. Every time I start to think I kinda like it, it tosses me a frigid manadarin or a wanton pear. When it’s good, it’s very, very good, but when it’s bad it is just so darn awful that I start to realise that the thing about a Snickers Bar isn’t that it’s convenient or addictive ‘cos of the high salt/sugar/fat combo… no, it’s successful because you always know what you’re going to get.
Fruit isn’t like that. Yuuuummmmm…. Snickers Bar… sorry, where was I?
But, this week I’m grateful for…
139. Oranges – sorry, Ms Winterson, but they actually are the only fruit that seems to be tolerable most of the time.
140. Baking – flour puffs, oozy dough, greasy hands, fragrant warmth, spoon-licking goodness. Substituting wholemeal flour means it’s all good for you, right?
141. My pathetic little heater – yeah, yeah, I know I said last week that I really love the cold. But that was cold days. Not, you know, later at night when you’re freezing through your four layers and your feet just won’t warm up without a little help. Not then. So, we thought about getting ducted reverse-cycle air-con and I got it costed up and then I realised that my pathetic little radiator heater wasn’t as bad as I thought…
So, what’s making you smile today? Add your I’m Grateful For post to the list below (and please, we love you, but it really does matter that your post is a Grateful one and not just a random), add the button (grab the code from my sidebar and paste it into your post) and pretty-please add a link back to me. Then pop over to visit other bloggers who are spreading a little sunshine.
[Image from How About Orange – another fabulous orange that I love to indulge in as often as possible! Thanks Jess!]

I’ve never met a mandarin I didn’t like. Pears, apples and oranges mind you, sometimes they make for quite unpleasant company. I still wonder who came up with the slogan ‘A Mars A Day Helps You Work, Rest And Play…’ xx

new starts – changes of directions and experimenting and pushing yourself forward. That’s what I’m grateful for.
Oh and the police.
Love in a B and B says
Every morning we squeeze fresh oranges and make a rainbow fruit salad – all for the B&B guest not us, but I do seem to eat and drink a lot of fresh fruit as a result…Love all fruit.
Kymmie says
Oh, your gratefuls this week sure did make me giggle. I made parmesan and semi-dried tomato muffins with pesto tonight. Made with wholemeal flour. They were so much healthier as a result. I’m sure of it.
And as for NQR fruit, yes. It can be offputting. Unless you add a bunch of sugar and bake. (I’m thinking flourless orange cake with lots of yummy syrup…)
Have an awesome weekend Bron. xx

Oh yes, oranges are amazing, i always feel better just by smelling, eating, juicing them, fantastic!! Did you know it’s too cold to grow oranges in Orange NSW?? They do apples. Love Posie
Jane says
I am so not a fan of oranges (hate hate hate them), but definitely with you on the baking thing. There’s something so homely and comforting about baking. Love it.
Have a great weekend 🙂 x
Brenda @ Mira Narnie says
oh i love my citrus fruits so oranges, lemons and mandarins rake high oh my daily intake list! And baking, well you don’t have to twist my arm to bake everyday – gladly I say! Have a nip of frangelico before bed, and snuggle with a heat pack at your toes and I’m sure you’ll feel toasty warm in no time!!!

I love all fruit. If I HAD to say something bad about fruit then the only thing I could mention would be bananas in a school lunch box. Ewwww. Other than that, I have rarely met a piece of fruit I couldn’t eat…MM on the other hand doesn’t trust anything other than apples. Red apples.

Love Oranges. In an attempt to stave off the cold I now have I’ve been eating/squeezing 3-4 a day. They are an awesome winter fruit. I also like mandarins and have a soft spot for Kanzi Apples (a new variety – can get them at Harris Farm). And the occasional pear. But I definitely like summer fruit more than winter…
Cate says
Actually, as much as I love fruit – I am with you on the disappointment of a bad piece (especially if you are out and it is what you’ve got!).
But then it adds a bit of the unexpected to life!
have a great weekend Maxabella

Lovely.
Love this linky. Its a great end to the week. I look forward to it ya know.
And mandarins are FAB as long as they are not refrigerated and NOT on the point of “turning”. But I hear ya re fruit. And Snickers.

Oh I am SUCH a fussy fruit eater. I thoroughly inspect anything before I eat it. My pet hate is floury apples – eugh! And I can’t eat a banana if it’s got anything brown about it – JUST yellow is the only way.
Love the spoon-licking baking goodness though – YUM. I say that I bake for my children – you know, as like a creative lesson – but secretly I love all the deliciousness.
I hate the cold – I don’t mind winter – but I hate BEING cold. As long as I’m somewhere warm and dry it can rain and blow as much as it likes.
Have a good weekend! xx

Am personally “allergic” to oranges, but I have to admit, they last the longest in the fruit bowl. Boy child loves them. For that I am grateful …

chocolate is like McDonalds you always know what you will get. Fruit is like life you don’t know what you will get! :-))

Heater love is big in this household too. There’s nothing like a lobster red backside to ward of the winter chills. gxo

I grew up just outside of Orange where they grow apples! In fact my father and his brothers built all the coolrooms which store all the fruit. Our fruit box was always chocka block full of fruit straight from the tree.
Thanks for hosting.
Jodi @ The Scribble Den says
I’m not a huge fruit eater either, but do love a Banana when it is perfectly on the balance of just ripe. Oh and when they aren’t so damn expensive!
TK says
I have just chomped my way through a particularly bland pear……why were the ones on our tree as a kid so much nicer I ponder!!!! hmmm…..yes I get that snickers thing….they are always damn good!!! Wholemeal flour in anything = healthy!!!, and my grat4eful this week is about heating!! We have reverse cycle – horrendously expensive but wouldn’t be without it!! Mind you I do love curling up by a nice fire BUT the pics always look nicer than the reality, lets be honest if its freezing you need to almost sit on top of a fire to warm up!!! Have a gorgeosu weekend, TK xx

i’m kind of funny with oranges.. we have two orange trees and i’m always fighting to find uses for them..
i did mind you download a almond-meal and orange cake recipe yesterday which is on the to-do list for the weekend..

I love a decent piece of fruit but have been somewhat disappointed with what’s been on offer recently…as for baking, there is not a day goes by in our home where someone isn’t baking.
What I wouldn’t give to have a fireplace at the moment…would sure beat our joke of a heater 🙂

I have a similar love/hate relationship with fruit. I am eating more lately as I try to get my little boy eating it too. Have been a way a few weeks…great to back and sharing gratefulness again!

Oh, how I love Jeanette Winterson! Have you read ‘Sexing the Cherry’? Crazy title, but wonderfully written fairy tale with modernish twists. She really is very clever.
Happy weekend!

you made me smile – have to agree about the fruit! chocolate IS so much easier and let’s face it, always YUMMY!!

Tee he! We have a glut of mandos here. After four weeks of scoffing them, the kids are over them (and our little tree is producing this year!). I haven’t read that Jeanette Winterson (is that her name?) but I did read one – art on the body or something. It was great. Should read some more. x

If we have fruits that aren’t really good for eating, I make smoothies out of them! I guess you could also bake muffins or cakes, but I haven’t really gotten the hang of sugarfree baking yet oO
Mama of 2 boys says
I agree, it is such a disappointment to eat a bad piece of fruit. So much safer reaching for a packet of chips or a choccie bar.
