Last week I was all about the click-clack, this week it’s the chit-chat. I am nothing if not musical.
I went out to the launch of the Kidspot Top 50 Bloggers Awards on Wednesday night. It was so kind of them to invite me and I had such a lovely evening meeting bubbly, brilliant, beautiful bloggers (check them out!). I am not a ‘shy’ person by any stretch of the imagination, but I can be very self-conscious about my larger-than-life personality and appearance. Consequently, heading out to a party is not something I particularly relish, but I so enjoy myself when I’m there.
The thing I find hard at parties is all that small talk. I find small talk really awkward. I was definitely the kid tucked into a dark corner having a ‘D&M’ at parties, rather than the social butterfly flitting from group to group. Do people ‘D&M’ in the dark anymore? Ah, the eighties.
But, this week I’m grateful for…
224. Chit-chat – it has it’s place after all. How marvellous to share a little moment here and there with so many wonderful bloggers. However, the temptation to launch into a serious discussion about something I had read on their blogs was almost too much to bear!
225. A night out – always nice to smarten up and paint a little merriment on.
226. Flats – every time I venture out in heels, I am always grateful for flats. Why totter painfully when you could run with abandon?

Oh I love a little chit chat, but yes a conversation that runs deeper is definitely something I like. But I’m wary (as you know). Trust me, next I’ll be less so.
And we can go deeeeeeeep!
Glad you had a lovely time. Gotta ask: are you working with Kidspot full time yet??? xx

I love meeting new people and a bit of random chit chat, but after a great D&M I always feel more alive.

oh god D&Ms. I literally have not heard that since 1991.
Yes I loved a good D&M at parties to, away in the corner.
The only people good at small talk are politicians and my 5 year old son.

I know exactly what you mean! I’m terrible at chit chat. I seem to find myself going in to d&m territory at inappropriate times. Especially when you know so much about someone’s life!! Congrats on top50 xx

Oh! I think we ALMOST had a D&M, but then settled for the ‘you need to come to Melbourne some time’ instead.
But you do. You just seriously do.
I’m the worst small talker.
I’m the best D&M’er.
I love your larger than life personality. And I love that you greeted me with your larger than life hug.
You’re genuine. Who would want to change the tiniest thing about you?

Yes. I used an emoticon. And I don’t care đ

Oh, I love me a little chit chat! It’s the best đ
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I always start on the chit chat, but somehow ask a question pretty early on in the piece that leads to a whole different conversation on a different level. Love D&M’s. (Not to be confused with M&M’s – how funny though if they’d called them D&M’s instead of M&M’s – it’s late, can’t you tell??) xx

I do so love my heels when I put them on, but I do so hate them but half way through the night. Im with you, I much prefer substantial conversation to chit chat, but it can be fun if it is not forced.

I am woeful at small talk. I tend to be nervous in social situations though and either clam up and stay silent or just keep rambling. I think I need to practice more. Lovely weather we’ve been having…

Oh, I find small talk so boring! why can’t you just launch into a proper conversation with someone as soon as you meet them? Especially if you read people’s blogs and kind of know them already… I guess chit-chat is a necessary evil when you have a lot of people gathered together. I’m glad you managed to enjoy it.

And I’m grateful for urban dictionary. I almost decided that D&M is some kind of cocktail for shy people with lots of alcohol, but I’m glad I checked đ

I love a D&M. I’m more of the “Sit in a corner” than the “Look at me, look at me” type of person at a party.
Glad you had a good night! đ

Love a good piffle but love flat shoes or bare feet (only in the house) had to have my totsies in work shoes this week…not happy at all…they want to be free đ

Is it wrong that I had a D&M with a stranger in a changeroom the other day?! I am an oversharer… but then, so was she!
And I must agree with you about flat shoes! I think I have hit the age where flats are my friend…. as long as they are not the ones with DF written on the toe…. my mum always laughed at those and said the DF stood for Dead Fuck cause they were so ugly thats what you’d have to be to wear them!!! (see,TMI!!!)
(sorry for the rude word!)

i love a good night out and i live in flat shoes for the most part!

When I look back at my years of wearing heels I am astonished I survived. Motherhood has made me soft I’m afraid.
