There’s a group of us school mums who get together at each others’ houses on Fridays every couple of weeks or so. A quick dash home to change out of school uniforms and over we go. The kids are aged from 1 to 10, with lots more girls than boys. They run riot outside (after dark! It’s so exciting!) while us mums drink wine and sort out the world. Later the men show up and we order in pizzas using some ridiculously cheap voucher or another. Last night there were 28 people for dinner.
It’s such a lovely way to close a week and strengthen friendships.
So, this week I’m grateful for…
251. Getting together – casual, easy, relaxed and refreshing. The more I get to know those school mums, the more I love them.
252. Random friendships – especially for the children. They hang out with their little Friday night group because we mums chose each other. That little mixed gang of kids has become so fond of each other. I think kids need these kinds of random friendships in their lives.
253. Opening up – I love how friendships develop from light chats about the weather into heart to hearts about our internal changeable weather.
Link opens 10am Sydney time each Friday.
It’s a beautiful way to be.

I love this! I so wish I had something like this going on in my life. Here’s hoping that maybe one day I will! x

It’s so good to get on well with the school mums, partly because it’s just so practical… we’re all together so often during the week.
But it’s sad too when primary school ends and the mums and dads no longer see each other so much, again just out of practicality. BUT went out for breakfast with some of the Year 6 2011 mums thsi week – such a joy, and we know each other so well. With the twins we are now just getting to know a new gang, lots of lovely people there . Hooray!

Your group sounds lovely! I have a few crafty, school mum friends and we use to get together regularly until this past year – schedules just dont match up anymore unfortunately. But we still love to catch up at pick up time 🙂

Wow, sounds great – and impressive that everyone’s involved every couple of weeks. I’m not sure I could do that. We have a group of school mums that get together every couple of months for dinner – without children and husbands 🙂 Some of us have grown quite close in a short space of time.

Sounds great! We don’t really have this with school friends, but if I really put my mind to it I bet we could get enough people within our suburb that we know to do this.

I got goosebumps reading this one! We have friends like that and I cherish these catchups. In face we had lunch today. Our kids are only 2…so they aren’t really off on their own playing in the dark yet, but they are certainly getting better at trashing my/someone else’s loungeroom while we drink wine and chat. Our group started from the council mother’s group…so it is just beginning to blossom, with “internal weather” chats and us learning more about each other. All because we happened to have babies around the same time of year, and live in the same area. I love random. Have a lovely weekend. x

this is so lovely bron. I have always found it hard to speak to new people, especially if there was hope or anticipation of a friendship, especially since my daughter started kindy last year. I am not sure I am getting any better to be honest, but this lovely set up of yours makes me want to try a little harder x

That is awesome, in summer at harvest time when all our husbands are busy and we don’t see them we girls rotate firday afternoon get togethers, straight from bus pick ups to each other’s houses, it is the best.
Hope you keep up this tradition, I can remember my parents doing this when I was growing up, right until I moved out of home!
