I confess I was originally a little bit meh about a Pokemon party. I’m a bit meh about most merchandisey things (although Pokemon sure beats a lot of them). I think branded stuff cramps my style. You have to work within the existing set up.
“What about a space party?” I enthused. “Camping? Outback? Animal?”
“Nah, I think I’ll stick with Pokemon,” came the answer.
So I researched the whole Pokemon thing and I’ve come up with a plan and I’m rather sold on the whole idea now.
Max and I made the invites using this cool website. Hours of fun for any Pokemon fan (and their mother, as it turns out). The kids loved them and I think I’ve totally upped my cool factor in the eyes of the eight-year-old boy set. Which was necessary.
I overnighted as Band Camp Mum on Monday night this week and bunked in with twelve rowdy little boys (why yes, yes I did). Let’s just say that the Cranky Pants had to come out a number of times… so I think I had a lot of making up to do.
For the papercrafty among us: I copied the images we made on the site to a word doc and resized to a Pokemon-sized 6.3cm x 8.8cm. Then I printed them out, cut them out, stuck them to the front of an existing Pokemon card using a glue stick, trimmed to a perfect fit, applied two coats of good ol’ Mod Podge and heeeeeello Pokemon invites.
Let the battle begin!
Do your kids like Pokemon? Do you get it?
