Where’s the cake?
The cake was hiding behind the curtains for much of the party.
I couldn’t help sharing these shots of my sweet little nephew getting caught taking a peek… kids just love a little mystery. Resist giving everything away upfront and keep some surprises (see below for another!)
The tickets
To win a prize you need to win tickets. To win tickets you needed to win at the games.
The prize booth
Ball toss
Tin cans wrapped in nice wrapping paper made for a sweet vintage ball toss arena. I made the bean bags out of scraps left over from Lottie’s dress filled with rice. If you knocked over all the cans with three tosses, you got a ticket.
Hoopla
Lucky duck
Bathtub, blue food colouring, lots of little ducks with thumb tack hats stuck in their heads and a magnet on the end of a stick. There were twelve ducks in the bath and two of them had a prize-winning red spot market underneath them.
The prizes were all sorts of little and bigger things that I collected over many months. If I saw something on sale or saw something bearable at a $2 shop, I tucked it away. There were lots of happy faces (except maybe my nephew who rightly wanted to know why he couldn’t have two prizes because he had ten tickets).
