Our bathrooms are in dire need of renovation. Everyone tells me this is not the case, but that’s only because they haven’t had a tile fall on their head whilst showering. Or seen inside the bathroom cabinet which became wet-through one day and swelled overnight because it’s made from cheap-as-chips chipboard. Actually, they probably have seen that bit – everyone looks in other people’s bathroom cabinets, right?
I think that when it comes to ‘renovation’ when something looks reasonable, we tend to think it’s okay. Like, if you haven’t got a pink bath and orange patterned tiling, the bathroom is good to go. But that’s just decorative. What we need is a full-scale new fit out. We’ve got the money squirrelled away and have had for about two years now. I keep thinking I’ll get around to it eventually and in the meantime the toilet started leaking (not nice), the towel hooks came tumbling down in the night and the shower screen has ‘glass cancer’ (I only know that glass cancer is even a thing because Shannon Lush talks about it a lot. To fix, you need to wipe it over with almond oil… I don’t know if it works because despite having an aggressive form of glass cancer, I’ve never done it).
Why do our bathrooms remain diabolical? Why can’t I move on this? Why do I languish?
It is because I can’t chooooooooose?
Clearly from the ‘mood board’ (ie, stuff I’ve pinned here and there), I’m liking standard white with patterned tile and a little wood, but where do I actually start with a bathroom renovation? A builder? A plumber? A psychologist?
