While researching a Kidspot story, I came across the egg carton cupcake holder at The Clever Carrot. How ingenious is using an egg carton to transport little cupcakes? It may seem like ‘ingenious’ is pushing it, but if you’ve ever struggled to keep those little blighters upright and unsmushed as you tumble into school on birthday day with excited kids, school bags, instruments and late notes, you’ll know how overjoyed I was to discover the egg carton cupcake holder.
It was just another ‘why didn’t I think of that’ moment. Staring us in the face, never realised until some resourceful blogger hits publish.
I made some cute labels in powerpoint to make things pretty. If you’re interested, an egg carton needs a label 240 x 85 mm and mini-cupcakes slot perfectly into the egg rests (egg rests? Egg holes just sounded a bit rude…)
Mini-size is perfect for birthdays at school. Everyone knows kids only eat the icing any way.
Incidentally, how bad is my icing on these cupcakes! I blame the midnight hour… how often we find ourselves stooped over the kitchen counter in the wee small hours doing things for our kids that they only partially appreciate. So many mums, so many kitchen counters, so many bloody cupcakes.
I try very hard to get the kids to take biscuits, lollies, slices… but not Badoo. Badoo insisted on cupcakes and like the fool I am, I churned out the cupcakes. I totally suck at icing.
