This week I lost hours of work because I wasn’t concentrating and it made me realise that I haven’t been concentrating for ages. My focus is so often ‘elsewhere’ that I have to wonder how I’m getting anything done. All too often I have that feeling of ‘coming to’ in the middle of a task and wondering what I’m doing. Part of me is easy on myself because this is what happens when we try to do too much at once; but the another part of me is asking “what’s happening elsewhere that’s so bloody good anyway?” Where is my mind when it’s not present?
While I was busy redoing the writing piece that I accidentally trashed, I found this during a moment of understandable procrastination. It made me giggle, but I had to watch to the end to make me think. There is such freedom in self-awareness:
Other things that had me this week:
Reading – this piece on choosing connection, not perfection.
Writing – my thoughts for the new year.
Making – elf donuts which were a total hit with the kids!
Wishing – for focus.
Loving – this photography blog. I can’t get enough.
Wondering – if I should take part in – rather than volunteer at – my brother in law’s community race next March? Ho ho ho!
Happy reading.

I think we all lose a bit of focus around this time of year. I know I have. There’s anticipation for Christmas and the coming New Year mixed with emotions of just wanting it all over with! Day by day, breath by breath. That’s how I’m taking it!
Maxabella says
Me too, Jodi. My brain is mush, but the heart is solid. x
Emily @ Have A Laugh On Me says
That procrastination post is GOLD – I don’t set alarms but give myself to the next round number to complete a chore! My mind is mush right now, kids with tonsils out, tiredness, humidity, etc. Have a happy weekend Bron x
Maxabella says
You are absolutely under the pump, Em. I hope everyone is recovering nicely. I had my tonsils out at 18 and it hurt like a mofo. x

My shop’s been all over the head lately. And that was before a death in the family – now it’s a complete mess. Time out helped, Kelly OBVIOUSLY helped (LEGEND!), and now I’m back in the blogging world and trying not to drown in ALL. THE. INFORMATION.
Checking out those elf donuts. What a great idea!

My shop is so much all over the head that I put the wrong URL in the last comment! I see that happening a LOT over the next few weeks.
Maxabella says
Bwaahahahahaha! LOVE the new site, Em. x

You had me at elf donuts! Yummy!

We had the kids too. They adore them, and rightly so. x

Thank you for linking to this “on choosing connection, not perfection.” Which gave me this… “We weren’t meant to go this journey alone: perfection is isolating, but connection is crucial.” Great line don’t you think? Enjoy your weekend. Xx

It’s a beautiful piece and one that I live by. x

shia lebeouf… that is perfection

Isn’t it? I can’t quite figure this dude out, but I like him. He’s involved in some seriously whacked out shit, but at least he’s trying. x

Thought you’d be interested to know we got our bathrooms up and functioning today. Plumbers are finished! Took 12 months from start to finish but we now have bathrooms:):):) I had the first shower tonight:) Kids scrambled to be the first one to use the toilet. lol Can’t believe it, we are now a 3 bathroom/3 toilet family!:):)

You will not know yourselves. Game changer, Erin. x

I think we a need to be a little bit gentler on ourselves at this time of year. With so much happening we are all scrambling to get this done, pre-Christmas, pre-school holidays, pre-work commitments, pre-everything!
No wonder we are all over the place.
Oh still in love with those Elf Donuts! Cutest Xmas gift I’ve seen so far. Love them!
Maxabella says
So true, Kim. Gentle is a good word a week before Christmas! x

It must be the time of year, I’ve had one of those weeks where I seem to walk into a room for a reason (online and off) and can’t remember why.
Maxabella says
So many weeks like this… sigh. x
sarah@Tomfo says
Happy weekend Maxabella, I love your one word post. I’m so doing that next year…
I think I’ll even begin to pause this year, so I don’t miss a thing. x
Maxabella says
‘Pause’ was a really good word, Sarah. It’s made a genuine difference for me. Join in next year!

That feeling of losing so much work….. uggggh. But sometimes these moments seem like they need to happen to help us take stock… and waste a load more time in between. 😛 Sorry to hear you lost your work, but without it you wouldn’t have found Shia he he he! x
Maxabella says
Oh, that’s so true!! Silver lining queen! x
Helen K says
I wonder if your lack of focus is actually a way your mind is making sure you pause? (Being your word for the year and all. Certainly making sure you see things you might not have if you were more focused! Just a thought – putting a positive twist on it!)
I’ve been enjoying reading your thought this year and getting to know you too. Definitely do the community race – I’ll be doing the Oxfam trail walker a few weeks later so we could be online training buddies! Xx
Holly Hollyson says
I would love to take part in a race! Sadly, the fear tends to take over somewhat!
Lisa@RandomActsOfZen says
I’m so glad you’re doing “one word” again, Bron. I’ve been trying to think of mine for the last couple of months, and I’m now happy with what I’ve come up with. I obviously need a bit of a shove to get me thinking 🙂
Have a gorgeous weekend x
Vicki @ Knocked Up and Abroad says
It’s definitely the time of year to be absent and distracted. Shame you had to lose an entire document to come to. How infuriating!! Gahhh! Hope you’ve taken some time to pause x

Thanks for sharing the photography blog…loving it and think I might finally get off auto mode if I keep reading! Also love, love those elf donuts and have put them on the list for next year, have already started your reindeer noses for my FDC kids as well as my girl’s class, thinking I may need to buy more jaffas than I thought though, sampling them just took me back to my childhood!
Have a lovely weekend x

There is no worse feeling than losing a file you have spent ages working on. I can totally sympathise. Not that it does you much good. I hope it was quicker to write the second time around.
