I’m stunned and overwhelmed and cheered and heartbroken and filled with joy over the response to my post about being missing from my children’s childhood.
But I’m not surprised, not really.
We mums have been missing from family photos for years and years and it’s time we jumped back #inthepicture. Being insecure and self-conscious and shy just isn’t a good enough reason to go missing from our children’s memories. Our kids don’t care and we are right there anyway, just as we are.
I didn’t quite know how to say THANK YOU to all the wonderful mums who have uploaded their photos to #inthepicture so far… so I made you a little video.
I get goosebumps when I see all the shining mums in this video. I get goosebumps and I’m grateful.
Are you getting #inthepicture?
* If you would like me to take your picture out of this project, please email me at maxabella(a)gmail(dot)com and I will remove it immediately. It will be heartbreaking, but I’ll do it.

This made me cry! My boys are 2 and 3 and there are only a handful of pictures with me in them. I needed to see this before it was too late. I always say, when I look nicer, when I lose more weight, later…later….later. Well later is now! I am their mother and always will be, I am always there behind the camera and I deserve to be in the picture too!! We are our own worst critics…..because not ONE time through the whole video did I think these moms were anything other than beautiful!! This is amazing and inspiring!! Thank you!!!
Lauren @ Create Bake Make says

Thank you so much for doing this! My kids loved it – Phoebe asked why it was put together and when I explained, she looked shocked and said ‘but you’re beautiful, Mum – all the Mums are beautiful! Look!’ (and then we watched it again. Through the eyes of a child xx

I wish I had some photos of my mother with me and my brothers and sisters as children. Apart from the one or two of her with us as babies there are none. I have more of me with my kids but not as many as there should be.
Your pictures are beautiful, joyous, ones to be treasured. 🙂

So beautiful – the message, the photos and that soundtrack to your video. I’ve loaded a photo (a bit late for the video) – took it today as my big girl received her senior page in Year 6. Smile wrinkles only express the joy of the moment – don’t they!
Maxabella says
Smile wrinkles are the best, Kathy! x

This is one of the main reasons I started a blog. to encourage women to not give a f@#% what others think about them, and to recognise that your kids absolutely love you for who you are- just beautiful, xxx
Lauren @ The Thud says
For God’s sake, I just put on some makeup and now it’s ruined!
I truly love this whole movement and I really think you’ve changed people’s lives. That’s not blowing smoke Bron, that’s real. I know quite a few mums who I shared this post with who dropped everything to go and take a photo with their kids and vowed to stop being so goddamn self conscious and start caring more about being present in their kids’ lives and memories.
What an amazing thing you’ve done. It’s more than just being in the photo, it’s about taking centre stage and taking credit for everything you give and do for your kids. It’s about saying, yep, I’m here ALL THE BLOODY TIME and now I’m going to make myself seen.
P.S I’m going to come and give you a big hug at Problogger Sydney!
Kymmie says
Brilliant Bron. You’ve hit the mark again. I’m vowing to be in more pictures with my kids. xxx

What a brilliant idea and I do wish I’d contributed. I did think of it but then everything else took precedence and it slipped to the back of my mind – isn’t that shameful! xx
