Another month of attempted in the picturing, another abysmal fail. The photo above is it, taken unexpectedly at a friend’s backyard party, which is just as well or I wouldn’t have anything to put up this month. You can’t actually see the kids, or even me for that matter, which is why this is a fail! I am starting to realise that it’s not just my own weird insecurities that are keeping me out of my kids’ childhood memories. It’s practicalities!
The fact is, it’s hard to take moving, memorable images when you’re forced to ask. As soon as you ask “can you take our picture?” you find yourself lining up with unnatural cheesy grins and reluctant children. Not quite the look we are going for, especially since I have spent years training my children to not pose for the camera!
This month I’m planning to take some of my own shots. I’m going to set my camera on ‘auto’, set it up with a tripod, set the timer and just start playing with the kids. It’s those natural scenes that I’m after – the kind I’ve been taking of the rest of the family for years.
If you haven’t jumped in a shot with the kids this month, in Australia today is the perfect day! Happy mother’s day!
How did you go this month?
Please share you image(s) below (just upload the image, no need to link it to anything) – it’s a nice record of all the mums out there! If you forgot to get #inthepicture again this month, sign up for a gentle monthly reminder email from me.
