Instead of screens today, why not… play with sticks?
We love Pooh sticks, but our best-ever stick game is, of course, Fly! Fly is the kind of game you can play anywhere, anytime because all you need are a few sticks and just yourself. Of course, it’s a lot more fun with a friend, but, let’s face it, most things are.
It got me thinking about all the things you can play with a stick. It was hard to narrow it down to six good ones, but if I don’t narrow it down, the list becomes overwhelming. Six is a good number. Here’s your starting point…
1. A den your toys will love from Ana Mum Diary
2. Erect a stick teepee from A Sense of Wonder Play School
5. Head out on a walk and track with sticks like the Scouts. Can the kids find their way back? (Hope so!)
4. Play a game of pooh sticks.
5. Make a stick bow and arrow from Growing up Creative
6. Float a stick raft from Be a Fun Mum
Do your kids ‘get’ nature’s toys or need some prodding?

It’s all about nature toys around here. When we were building and Bell was only 2, there were about a million labybirds that we apparently adopted. Since then, it’s a mix of the backyard and the beachfront.
I know it’s not as easy to let the kids take off on their own, as it was years ago. But there’s so much to be found in gardens, if you have a good look x

Cute!
But I admit, it’s me that needs prodding. I’ve screamed at the kids to watch television and they’ve refused. What kind of topsy turvy world is this?

Lovely ideas Bron! My Mr TT is all about sticks at the moment – but more in the running with, waving and poking sense. There really is something about boys and sticks!! Pooh sticks is a popular one with my tornadoes and I love the look of the stick raft. I think we will focus on those and jumping in puddles before we work our way up to a stick bow and arrow. Can’t see that one ending well in the hands of a 3 year old chasing after his sister!!
