Despite battling through a bloody awful lurgy all week, my life has been all glowing lights this week. We hit up VIVID in both the city and in Chatswood and loved the festive atmos and the pretty lights. I adore all of the light sculptures that are dotted about the place and wish we could have more inspiring public art all of the time. Why can’t we have that?
A little bit of VIVID was happening in my lounge room too as I’ve been madly decorating for Badoo’s Let’s Glow Crazy party. It’s on tomoz and I’m totally not ready. I think it’s a mid-year thing but Badoo’s parties are always the ones I am the least prepared for… luckily I tend to work better like that. I love a deadline.Other things that had me this week:
Reading – reading? Who’s got time for reading? Sigh.
Writing – Late notes for school, it’s been one of those weeks plus VIVID required late nights, so…
Making – Twirly damper – make a fire in the backyard and get these puppies on!
Wishing – I had more time for doing and less time for procrastinating… or something.
Loving – making the stuff that’s in my head. If I didn’t do it for parties, I would probably never make the time and I just love it.
Wondering – why my house is so cold. Why don’t we just buy in some heat? I’m shivering as I type this and every now and then I have to sit on my hands to warm them up enough to type. What is wrong with us?
This week’s guest hostie with the mostie is Shari from Good Food Week. Shari makes really yummy family food (I think I first met her through the Foodie Fridays link) as well as some interesting conversations about everything from housewives to Housewives. Pop over and say hi!
Happy reading.

Oooooh a glow party sounds awesome! Hope it’s amazeballs 🙂
Maxabella says
So do I… amazeglowballs. x
Zoe Meunier says
I love a deadline… I can’t knuckle down if the end point is too far away! I need that extra adrenalin of wondering if I’ll get it finished in time. PS My house is freezing too, I spend the entire day typing with numb fingers, IT”S NOT RIGHT!
Maxabella says
We are mad! It’s going to be a very long winter, mate. Must reconsider my position on heating asap. x
Mother Down Under says
Oh I can’t wait to see the party wrap up post!
Stay warm!
Maxabella says
There will be one. I’m good for it. x
Lisa@RandomActsOfZen says
I’m definitely all for pushing the deadline too, Bron. And I’m freezing, and it’s only down to about 22 around here. Spring and autumn for me.
Have a beautifully glowing party tomorrow x
Maxabella says
22? As in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit? 🙂 x
Lisa@RandomActsOfZen says
Haha celsius, I’m a sook!
Dannielle@Zamamabakes says
Hope you’re feeling better lovely.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one who runs late to school 🙂
Deadlines definitely motivate me but I do tend to leave things until the last minute like assisting one 8 year old to write her speech that has to be ready for delivery next week, we’ve decided on roller skating as the topic, wish us luck.
I love Shari’s Blog and all the food she creates especially her cheese and spinach rolls (I’ve made them) they are the goods!!!
Have a gorgeous long weekend Bron. Have a great let’s glow crazy party!
Maxabella says
I’ll have to look up the cheese and spinach rolls, Dannielle. And good luck with the speech! I SO do things like that, even though I thought I tried very hard not to pass my bad ‘chase the deadline’ habits onto the kids. Of course i have already… x
Raychael aka Mystery Case says
Wow, I might need you to organise my 45th birthday in October. Sounds fab. I love a good deadline.
Maxabella says
A GLOW party would be such a great idea for a 45th, Raych! It’s easy and it’s fun. Do it! x
Emily says
I’m the same. I complain about how crazy May is with Budget and pre-EOFY work, but the truth is I love tight deadlines and quick turnarounds and work much better that way. Under Pressure (guitar and piano riff, finger clicks)
I also turn everything into song…
Maxabella says
Ding ding ding ding-ding-ding-ding… x
Malinda @mybrownpaperpackages says
I love using parties as an excuse to make all the stuff in my head and on my Pinterest boards too! As for wishes, I wish I had more time to just relax and do something for absolute pure fun.
Maxabella says
ME TOOOOOO I want to be able to just do something ‘cos I wanna and not ‘cos I have to. Mind you, I’m pretty sure no one but me gives a flying about making the glow party extra glowy… x
Denyse says
Love deadlines and always finish before them. I do get stressed about too many deadlines at once, particularly when I was at Uni, working full time and all that..but with a plan it was all good…as long as I had a plan I could see how it would work and I loved ticking them off. Love the idea of your glow party. Have fun. Denyse
PS. get the house warmed..
Maxabella says
Yes, I really should get the house warmed. And also learn to “finish before them” as I never, ever do. x
Vanessa from StyleandShenanigans.com says
Love the idea and of course the lights of VIVID. How cool that you took the kids too.
In terms of deadlines, I don’t like leaving things to the last minute – hence I’ve been busily organising my 40th this week … because it is in December! I love to be organised and try and minimise chaos as much as possible. This is easier said than done in a house with three little boys! Have a great weekend! x
Maxabella says
Are you having a glow hip hop party like Lottie, Vanessa? x
Jodi Gibson (JF Gibson Writer) says
We were in Canberra a couple of months ago when they had a similar ‘light up the city’ thing (can’t remember what it was called), but it was amazing. So pretty.
As for the glow party, I can’t wait to see the pics. Enjoy xx
Maxabella says
I’m trying to… off to hang black fabric… x
Mrs W says
Jodi – that’s the Enlighten Festival! Good time of year to be in Canberra.
Jodi Gibson (JF Gibson Writer) says
That’s it! Yes, it was fantastic. I loved the way they lit up old parliament house.
Kim @landofzonkt says
Not u too. How much does it suck to be mum & be sick. You just want to fall in a ball on the couch & have your own pity party… But no, you still have to make lunches, wash laundry & do school pickup even though your face feels like it’s going to fall off.
Took 2wks for mine to piss off & it’s still kinda lingering… So frustrating.
I hope you are feeling kinda better, and best of luck with the party… Last minute planning means you’ll pull something amazing out of your butt… That’s what my Nan used to say. Lol x
Jenni from Styling Curvy says
Hope you are feeling better! Rug up and look after yourself x
Mrs W says
I haven’t had time for any reading this week either. Sadness.
My house is cold too, and we have gas central heating! But I live in Canberra, so….mystery solved. Minus 7 overnight. More like Can-TARCTICA!
I enjoy a good deadline, unless it’s extremely tight from the get-go. That’s when I have trouble getting stuck in to the work, for all the freaking out I’m doing in my head!
Good luck with the party, if your other party wrap-ups are anything to go by, it will be a smashing success and look fabulous. Don’t worry, you got it 😉
Jules @ toddlers plus teens says
A glow theme party sounds great . Deadlines are definitely good for keeping me in routine but dislike them when it comes to work as it means late nights .
Sandra Kelly says
Let’s Glow Crazy Party sounds like so much fun! Hope you get a chance to enjoy it a little. Such a big effort… good on ya Mum. 🙂 Xx
Helen K says
What a week – and I really, really love the idea of Let’s Glow Crazy party (in fact, if it’s ok, I might even borrow it for a certain girl’s birthday early next year – will just have to think about how to make the glow effective without the night going too late. Hmm)
Deadlines – sometimes I love them, sometimes I hate them. But they can be really motivating – particularly for things you just don’t want to do (we often schedule events here just to make sure a half completed house renovation task actually gets done!)
Enjoy the weekend too – long weekend here, as we have shivered through the coldest start to winter I think ever! Ah well – might be snow season for us this year! xx
Mumma McD says
Oh how beautiful is VIVID? I work in Martin Place and have been loving the walk from the office to the station of an evening. Hope the glow party goes off!!
Vicki @ Knocked Up and Abroad says
We’re all battling a horrific lurgy here too. Hope you’re on your way out of it. What do you mean no heating? This does not compute with me. I’d be changing that stat! x
Sammie @ The Annoyed Thyroid says
A glow party! Will it be like Vivid at Home? It sounds glorious. Wasn’t Vivid wonderful? I was totally bedazzled by all the pretty. My camera battery died the first time we went so we had to go again… what a hardship! How was Chatswood? Worth a visit? Hope everyone parties like a smartie!
Lydia C Lee says
We’re finishing our 2 weeks of vivid (all sites except chatswood) with color run tomorrow night. It’s sad to say I’m very excited about the head lamp…so I’m all for the glow party!!
Bele @ BlahBlah says
I’m so happy you’re feeling better. I LOVE Vivid. I keep sneaking back in for peeks.
Gah, speak not of parties. I have hubby’s 40th to organise and I’m in complete denial x
Lucy @ Bake Play Smile says
Oh I’m with you… I haven’t read anything for ages!!! And yep, why oh why does winter have to be so cold. I’ve definitely brought out the ugg boots and hot water bottle!
Vicki @ Boiled Eggs & Soldiers says
Just back from seeing Vivid tonight with another night of it planned tomorrow night, how gorgeous is Customs House. I’m with you on going all out for parties – love it and it’s the only chance I get to “style”things, I can’t wait to see your glow party pics. I keep meaning to suggest The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair for your list (or have I already) anyway when you do get time again it’s unputdownable. I just made Shari’s Beef & Mushroom one pot wonder which is delicious! All the best for the party
stephanie@stephsjoy says
We’ve had a big week of celebrations in our household, a birthday and an anniversary! We been hanging out at the vivid too always fun! Something awesome about light in the dark isn’t it.x
Robyna | The Mummy & The Minx says
I hope you are feeling better. I love kids parties for the same reason – some people may think it’s over the top to make all this stuff for just one day, but when else do you get the opportunity? And the looks on their faces are priceless.

Vivid is so amazing. good works Sydders! My house is feeeezing to but my heater makes me feel bleugh! Blankets it is!
Tash @ Gift Grapevine says
I’ve been loving all the colourful pics of VIVID on Instagram. It’s great seeing public art (Perth is getting great in that department too) but like you, I’d love to see more! Hope the glow party went well today. What a fantastic theme!
Julie @ Off to the park says
I hope you’re feeling better soon Bron. We were hoping to get to Vivid this weekend, but we’ve had a sick house with Popette having a horrid infection and now Cherub running high temps, its not been fun. Hope the Badoo’s party was a hit! Sounds like a lot of fun. xx

Petrify. But kind of push me to get my ass into gear!
