Instead of screens today, why not make a marshmallow tower construction?
The only thing we like better than toasting marshmallows on the fire is building with them. Matter of fact, we build with them and then we deconstruct the constructions and we toast the marshmallows anyway.
Not especially hygienic (I mean, just look at the state of the Badoo’s feet and how close they are to the marshmallows…) but good for immunity and still yummy, no?
All you need are some toothpicks and a bag of marshmallows and you go, go go. We made these marshmallow towers after dinner last Sunday. Guess what we had for dessert?
More ways to play
- Build a giant object together or have a competition to see who can build the tallest tower or the weirdest shape.
- Thread some beads onto the toothpicks before you put them into the marshmallows. Pretty!
- If you can’t find any marshmallows, use grapes, lollies, pieces of cut up apple or potato, peas or play dough.
- You can use food colouring to dye your marshmallows for some colourful fun, simply dip the marshmallow into 1/2 cup water with a few drops of added colour and allow to dry on some paper towel.
- You can also paint the marshmallows using the food colouring and a paint brush. Add a few drops of food colouring to a 1/2 cup of water and use like regular water colour paint.
Do you think you could give up your marshmallows for play?
Let’s play!

Hahaha brilliant! Although I am not sure those marshmallows would even make it on to the sticks with my kids #sugardeprived

This is such an ace (and very delicious) idea! I did this a few months ago in a practical challenge in a pub quiz. It was such fun, and it’s great not just for motor skills, but also for team building. My only regret was that I didn’t get to eat the marshmallows at the end!

You’re right, Sammie, I think the “marshmallow challenge” is a very famous corporate team building activity. I’m starting the kids early!! x

This is so cool Bron! 2 of our close friends have just bought fire pits so we’ve been having toasted ,marshmallow nights and the kids absolutely love it. This would be such a fun thing for them to do before we toast them! Totally going to try it. Xx

That looks fun and something my 3yr old would enjoy doing. We may try using grapes as he loves those, it’ll be great!

Grapes are a great idea, Valent. x

I can just picture a big dna model with them. We introduced Ari (3) to marshmallows around the fire this winter. He loved it!

Who wouldn’t love toasted marshmallows! And a big DNA model is a wonderful idea, Karin!! x
