The theme is my favourite bit! The key to working a good theme is attention to detail. The little-bitty-bits make the whole thing come together and add the wow factor. Unfortunately, little-bitty-bits are the things that catch on and become the latest fad – stripey straws / moustaches-on-sticks, anyone? So you need to think outside the square a little bit and make your party your very own.
Choosing a theme has always been left to my children. Hence, the recent random Harry party when Maxi was into Harry Potter for two seconds exactly around invitation sending time. To this day I am quite certain that the only thing he knows about Harry Potter is what he learnt at that party, but I digress. The point is, the theme was his choice and I do not judge.

Miss three just couldn’t decide on Fairy, Princess or Barnacles from Octanauts. Thankfully the show is not on ABC kids right now so we are going with Fairy Princess instead.
Miss turning 6 next year has been planning her witches Ball (with the Justine Clark song) for so long now, and I just emptied Spotlight from their left overs of Halloween stuff. Perfect.

Oh, thank you Carol and Clairey. I think my party host posts are all going to be a bit of a flop, but I’m going to love doing them so it’s nice to have some kind feedback. x

I am loving hearing about your fab ideas. Please keep them coming!

You are such a whiz
at this! One b-day the
we had for my daughter
was an angel party. We
asked all guests to be an
angel and please bring items
for the Humane Society in
lieu of gifts. We made halos,
painted nails with glitter,
pinned the horn on the
unicorn and topped the day
off with a magician. I’m sure
there was more, but that
was nearly ten years ago!
Fun to see all the great ideas.

having a theme really makes it all a whole lot easier to organise! Thanks for linking our farm party! There are some great links there – thanks! I’ll be busy for a while now!

Wow! Haha, I love how often he changed his mind. I’m like that too. 🙂 I can’t wait to have a party (not for any kids, just for silly adults) with one of these themes!
Cherie @ 'a baby called Max' says
Bron, I LOVE these posts. This is absolutely a flair of yours, that everyone should have the privilege of reading.
I love that you let your little ones choose, it is their birthday after all. I can’t wait for Max to be old enough to choose 🙂
For now, he is stuck with nautical, because I love everything nautical (poor little guy) – 🙂 xx
Wouldn’t it be a dream job to be able to plan children’s birthday parties for a living, & just let your (& their) imagination run free?!
xx

Love parties but lately I’m finding less and less time to organise and more and more people invited, making the finer details a bit more diccult. Fun nonetheless 🙂

Ahhh soul sister!!!
I am loving this party planning theme going on.
The one I am working on at the moment is a little bit different – It’s a “Boy vs Wild” (Bear Grylls) party for my soon-to-be nine year old. I have a Pinterest board dedicated to it (under “Survival Party”) AND i have created a website filled with clips of bear and party ideas. PLUS… there’s a FREE downloadable/printable party invitation. Two versions. One you fill out, and one you stick your kid’s face on and add your own text.
Oh and since we are on the topic of INVITATIONS, I really should promote my Kids Party Invitation website a bit better. they are all Free, printable, downloadable, all kinds of themes, with party how to posts to match.
Sigh.
I sure do love a good party. Shall i send you the link?

Oh, look at your party events organiser! I’m so impressed at the amount of detail.
I use to be an events coordinator, but I’ll be honest with you. Madison’s 4th birthday themed “Wild West” party was a hoot. I did it down to the last detail, but I’m still getting over it.
The fact that he’s turning six in 6 months’ time means I’ll have to pace myself, because another one is coming!
Off to check out those links for party ideas (fabulous idea Bron!)
