I find the amount of content on the internet overwhelming at the best of times, paralysing at the worst. That’s a big statement for a content junkie like me. Any kid who ever read the back of a cereal packet rather than be left for three whole minutes without something to read will know what I mean…
Upworthy
Not deep, not original and often not even correct, but there’s something about Upworthy. In lots of ways, Upworthy is a good reminder that we are the bloody awful traffic we’re stuck in. True to their word, they “create viral content” and I just can’t get enough.
You find stuff like this over there:
You really can’t beat a good Twitter feed for keeping up with the latest.
People to follow who know what to know:
@SilkCharm – Laurel Papworth, clever gal
@lilsarg – aka Hilary Sargent, aka ChartGirl, smartie
@HuffingtonPost – newsy flood, bit annoying
@DarrenRowse – all things blogging
@ChrisSylvester – funny, topical
@AlTait – sister, writer, knower of things worth knowing
@Upworthy – see above!
This site lets you bring all your fave news sources together on one screen. I have it set in the ‘pinboard’ mode, so headlines and the first few lines of an article are all that feed to me unless I click. That’s about my attention span, so it works for me.
Pretty much everything happening on the Aussie political and newsy scene that’s worth knowing. It’s probably just my attention span talking, but this site is crying out for more engaging writing. It’s a bit like when I take a file full of corporatese and translate it so people will actually want to read it. I should make myself available to the Crikey editors. But then, sometimes corporatese is what the punter wants…
Too many years working in marketing have made me addicted to this site. It’s always a joy when I personally know the people that are making the Mumbrella headlines. I remember back in the Telstra days we had an ‘internal leak’ into the Mumbrella site that was nasty. Sometimes I wish I’d been that mole…
It’s true that HuffPo rips off a lot of content from everywhere else, but they usually do it better. The site is a juggernaut and impossible to load at times. They should look into that…
I love this mag, I love the satire, I love the writing, I love the revelry.
