Yippee! This week we are welcoming Zoe from A Quirky Bird as our new guest host for the #weekendrewind. You might have met Zoe when she guest hosted with us a little while ago. Or you might be lucky enough to know her from her clever blog. I love Zoe’s spin on the world (“quirky” is something I always wanted to be but didn’t quite achieve) and, you know what I especially love? Zoe noticed that with Kelly taking a break, the #weekendrewind had a bit of a ‘gap’ in our hosting line up and she emailed and asked if she could join the gang.
I love, love, love it when people pick themselves.
So, of course we say YES because we are lucky to have this bright and shiny lady on board. So, say hi to Zoe and let us always remember, if we want to be part of something, the very first thing we should do is ask.
Other things that had me this week:
Reading – A kid’s book (I do like a kid’s book): The Cavendish Home for Boys and Girls by Claire LeGrand. It’s creepy (too creepy for Cappers as it turns out) and a bit slithery, but a charming story so far.
Writing – well, clearly not on my blog! I’m finding my ‘new normal’ and will resume ranty posting shortly. I did manage to crack out a poorly photographed foodie post – yummy dinner.
Making – a frog pond. SO cute! If everything manages to stay alive and not get too algaey, I will post about how we did it!
Wishing – technology wasn’t so bloody glitchy. Honestly, not a day goes by when something isn’t somehow letting me down.
Loving – Sophie and Luisa’s gorgeous food photography and styling (and presumably eating) prac shop. I would love to attend one of these. Maybe next year…
Wondering – if Malcolm can sort this shit out (I’m hopeful).
This week’s lovely guest hostie is Sarah from TOMFO. Man there are some talented bloggers in Australia and Sarah is one of the best. She’s just so interesting! Her graphic design talent means there are loads of cute usable printables (for instance, check out her amazing family planner), she’s recently had a seachange to Yamba in Queensland (I love Yamba, have you been?) AND she’s building a new house. Do head over and take a look, you’ll like Sarah very much.
Happy reading and have a lovely weekend.

I’m wondering the same thing. As for technology, I haven’t had an internet connection for 2.5 weeks and I’m going nuts. NUTS. Next Tuesday, they now tell me. They said the same thing the week before. And the week before. Not holding my breath. Hooray for friends who say you can come over and use their wifi for a few hours! x
Maxabella says
Are you back on? Tuesday has come and gone…
JodiGibson (@JFGibsonWriter) says
Welcome Zoe!
When did I last pick myself? Well, I offered myself to fill in for a netball team who were looking for a player. Which doesn’t sound like a lot. But it was a team where I didn’t really know anyone, so putting myself out there (my shy, introverted self) it was a big deal. Anyway, just got back, we won and I felt pretty good for my first game in about two years. Not sure how I’ll be tomorrow though!
Have a great weekend. x
Maxabella says
Good on you, loves! That’s a really cool thing to do. Enjoy being part of a team. x
Malinda @mybrownpaperpackages says
I’m trying to teach myself how to ‘pick myself’ first, I know I need to and why, but it is easier said than done.
Maxabella says
I would pick you any day, Malinda. x
sarah@Tomfo says
Hello lovely, firstly thank you for that huge wrap, you are just too lovely, thanks for picking me to guest host the weekend rewind.
I’ve been putting my hand up all over the place lately, I’m a mad believer in that, if you don’t ask, you don’t receive.
PS. I hope that Malcolm can sort this mess out too.
Maxabella says
I hope you get to do lots of really awesome things because you put your hand up, Sarah. I love reading about your awesome things!! x
Lisa@RandomActsOfZen says
Fingers crossed with Mal.
Picking myself is really hard for me, and I just wish it wasn’t. Must work on that.
Fab choice with Zoe and Sarah, love them both.
Have a glorious weekend Bron, it’s school holidays….woohoo!!! xx
Sarah @ Tomfo says
Thanks Lisa, that’s so lovely to hear. have a wonderful school holidays x
Maxabella says
You too, Lisa! x
Karin @ Calm to Conniption says
I’m hopeful of the old Silver Fox too.
I love Sarah’s TOMFO, she is one creative (and generous with all her freebies) lady!
Have a wonderful weekend Bron.
Sarah @ Tomfo says
Hearing that makes me want to give more and keep telling my story, thank you lovely lady x
Helen K says
Lots of good reading and new faces – yay! No blog for me this week, because I’ve been enjoying the time with lots of family and some friends up here on the Sunshine Coast. I guess at the moment I’m picking them and me above blogging (just for a couple of weeks) and its been good. The fact I managed to leave things behind, and have limited broadband, has prob been an advantage. However, lots of fun instead – and exploring. Which makes me think – Yamba is supposed to be beautiful and isn’t far from here. Hmmm…
Sarah @ Tomfo says
Oh you should so take a detour, but then I’m obviously biased. Enjoy the time off in the sunshine.
Helen K says
Missed it this time, Sarah (we hung around the Sunshine Coast, and it was so lovely) but next time I think we’ll focus on the other side of the family in the Gold Coast hinterland. And then it’s just a hop and skip, really (and Yamba’s a fav of my brother in law and his family)!
Zoe | A Quirky Bird says
Oh thanks Bron for your kind, beautiful words. Picking yourself up can be hard. Over the years I’ve been a great “What If?” player. I’m now taking on some of those “What Ifs?”
Even though “no” is only two letters it’s so hard to hear. It scares me so. But, “What If” it was a yes and you never asked the question…..
Thanks again for the wonderful opportunity.
Zoe xx
Maxabella says
I wonder why we are all so scared of ‘no’, Zoe. I want to raise my kids to be unafraid of the word. To see it not as a setback, but a redirection. x
Shannon@ my2morrows says
Yay for Zoe and yay for Sarah! Love them both!
Really looking forward to hearing more about this frog pond! And let’s hope our new PM, the PR machine Malcolm can represent amd deliver! Xx
Maxabella says
I think I will have to report on the frog pond as it was such a fun thing to do and the tadpoles are awesome. x
Vicki @ Knocked Up and Abroad says
Good on Zoe! I love a gal with guts (and quirkiness!)
Maxabella says
Meee tooo!
Sammie @ The Annoyed Thyroid says
Great to see Zoe on Team Rewind and see Sarah as the guest host. I’m hoping the silver fox turns out to be of the fantastic and not the sly variety. A girl can dream, can’t she? Picking yourself is harder than it sounds, and it’s something I’m spectacularly crap at! Happy weekend and happy holidays for one and all!
Maxabella says
You should be GREAT at picking you, Sammie. Everyone else would pick you in a heartbeat! x
Em says
I always pick myself to take on hard tasks at work! I love a challenge! Welcome Zoe!!!
Maxabella says
Good on you, Em. I quite like a challenge myself. x
Natalie @ our parallel connection says
Trying to think when I last picked myself… Probably at work where I am confident I can do it. I wish I picked of backed myself more often but the fear of rejection still gets me every time
Lauren @ Create Bake Make says
Welcome Zoe and Sarah! I think both of these ladies are pretty amazing and so happy to see Zoe backing herself 🙂
Sarah @ Tomfo says
Oh thanks Lauren, you already know how much I think you’re tops. Esp. when you encouraged me go to PB two years ago, just love you to bits. Yay for Zoe, good things come to those who back themselves. congrats Zoe, you will be awesome X
Vicki @ Boiled Eggs & Soldiers says
It’s quite inspiring to see Zoe pick herself I need to be better at that. I love reading childrens books too, the girls & I are loving the Alice Miranda series at the moment. Sophie & Luisa’s workshops are my idea of heaven I wonder if there is anything like that near Townsville – we move on Friday so I will be checking out the local scene soon. x
Robyna | the Mummy and the Minx says
Firstly, so happy to see the gorgeous Zoe join your gang! I too hope that Malcolm will allow his personal views guide policy making. We don’t need the same unfair ideas with a slicker front man.
Amy @ HandbagMafia says
Picking yourself is great- putting yourself out there. It’s hard to do but it’s so often well received that I wonder what we were worried about!
Jenni from Styling Curvy says
Yay Zoe, great job! Can’t wait to see the frog pond post. Ron, I wish I was a tented garden type person. I love seeing veg gardens, worm farms and chooks…but I can kill parsley!
Lucy @ Bake Play Smile says
Good on Zoe! Love someone with a bit of initiative. Hope you’re enjoying your new job Bron! Have a great weekend xx
Kim @ Land of Zonkt says
How fab!
I meet Zoe at PB this year, lovely to meet her and I thought she was fibbing when she told me she knew my blog, but I pretty much said that to everyone… I mean who’d know my blog, ha!
But you forget they do, just as much as you do theirs… deh.
But she is lovely and friendly, as is my gorgeous girl Sarah. Heart of gold this lady and the Pinterest Queen, love her Pin boards just to die for! As is she.
I got to squeeze her at PB and was so happy to finally meet. Why those events are SOOO awesome.
I’m also with you on the tech issues, it’s always something right now.
I’m so sick of seeking that ‘spooling wheel’… killing me!
Happy Weekend hun and hope everything is going great with the new role. xxx
Sarah @ Tomfo says
It was lovely to finally meet you too, Kim, vice versa, you are one clever chick, have a great weekend . X
Julie @ Off to the park says
Hooray for taking a break from packing school lunches!! 🙂 I actually suggested myself to a friend who was looking for someone to do some social media and graphic work on a casual basis. I was a little reluctant as I have been out of the workforce for so long (nearly 7 years!), but thought as a working Mum and someone who I used to work with, she might be happy to take me on. Have a great weekend Bron x
Angie @ The Little Mumma says
I picked myself when I trained with my PT this morning and then when I had a facial after that. Yay, me!!
jules @ toddlers plus teens says
Yah Zoe ! Picking yourself can be tough but I’ve pushed myself to step out and ask more which has paid off . You never know if you don’t ask . Here’s hoping that The silver fox will step out and make some much needed bold changes. X
Erin says
Yes one day Sarah and I are going to meet:) As you know we are only down the road from each other.
Wishing you lots of calmness as you find your new normal
Tash @ Gift Grapevine says
Bravo Zoe!! And yay for frog ponds – Handy Hubby built a water feature and pond in our backyard (looks similar to yours Bron) and it wasn’t long before some frogs decided they wanted to make it their home. My tornadoes love looking for frogs!
Denyse says
Welcome to new sharers & carers of the rewind..and I’m adding my newest post today (deleted the first one from Friday!) because tonight ABCTV program called Compass features interviews with couples who have stood the test of time (and all that) in their relationships. Whilst we did not proceed to interview stage, we were asked to submit a composite photo and a little bit about it to the program. So, today Ive shared the blog post about #forbetterforworse. Denyse xx
